Day 15
29th May 2026
It’s Friday again !!!!! Finish work at 16:00 and as is my routine now I set off to runcorn old town again.
My wife Jane is accompanying me today, as I take the usual route to the swing bridge, along the weaver, steep up to the expressway then follow the railway tracks to runcorn.
The Royal - Runcorn
Distance from home: 3.7 milesTotal distance covered: 49.3 milesPubs visited so far: 31
Arrive at the Royal at about 5:30pm but it feels like 11pm as it’s bouncing. Disco in full flow and about ten ladies dancing to 90’s dance music wearing hi vis jackets :-) We look so out of place after our walk, but once again a very friendly bar tender comes over and serves us 2 ice cold fosters. We settle in on some seats where the old men sit to watch the footy and discuss the topics of the day.
The Wilsons- Runcorn
Distance from home: 3.7 milesTotal distance covered: 49.4 milesPubs visited so far: 32
Just up the road from the Royal is the Wilsons. A little quieter than the Royal but still lively Arctic Monkeys on the Jukebox which we like. Huge outside space here which hosts bands sometimes. Enjoy 2 cold lagers.
The Ferry Boat - Runcorn
Distance from home: 3.7 milesTotal distance covered: 49.6 milesPubs visited so far: 33
Head back past the Royal to the Wetherspoons. Another packed pub but the efficient friendly Bartender serves us an excellent pint of Cheshire Cat. A good mix of people in here, but no party atmosphere as is the Wetherspoons way.
The Barley Mow - Runcorn
Distance from home: 3.7 milesTotal distance covered: 49.9 milesPubs visited so far: 34
We are back in a party pub scene and people in here are having a good time. Pint of John smiths and a bowl of Pork Scratchings which is obviously against the rules but Jane ordered them so I don’t say no.
