Day 12
22nd May 2026
It’s Friday !!!!! Finish work at 16:00 and as I’m at home today I set off on my next route this time to runcorn old town.
Same start as when I went to Weston and the red admiral, down to the swing bridge in Frodsham then along the river to Runcorn rowing club, then a steep climb up to the expressway and then through the estate and along the path by the Heath School. It’s becoming a familiar walk and after 30 minutes or so the stresses of the week have gone and I’m looking forward to my next few pubs!!
The Lion - Runcorn
Distance from home: 3.4 milesTotal distance covered: 36 milesPubs visited so far: 22
I enter the very picturesque pub and it is busy but there’s a seat at the bar where I settle in. Friendly bartender serves me a well deserved pint of Fosters a drink I’d usually turn my nose up to , but after 1 ½ hour walk in the heat my god it tastes amazing.
The Clarendon- Runcorn
Distance from home: 3.7 milesTotal distance covered: 36.5 milesPubs visited so far: 23
I continue to the old town and enter the Clarendon. I can hear the pub as I walk down past Frailers Guitar shop as Friday is Disco night. It’s only 17:30 but people here are here to have fun. I order my lager and sit at the back feeling somewhat out of place in my walking gear and Hat, but the locals are very friendly and an odd man in a hat isn’t going to distract them from their fun.
Society - Runcorn
Distance from home: 3.7 milesTotal distance covered: 36.7 milesPubs visited so far: 24
I’ve had enough lager so I decide to visit a pub I do know, Society. Recently re-opened and rebranded as small batch brewing and Tap I enjoy a pint of their self brewed bitter which is excellent. Forgot to take a picture.
The Wellington - Runcorn
Distance from home: 3.7 milesTotal distance covered: 36.8 milesPubs visited so far: 25
On the way to the station I visit the Wellington. A busy bar, I’m back on the fosters, but it’s good and cold so I settle in the back room. The landlord is very chatty and rightly assumes I’ve been to Society and tells me he’s going to start running Vinyl night’s like they used to which is a great idea.
